Google Cloud Free Tier
This site runs on Google Cloud's always-free tier — a tiny virtual machine
that costs absolutely nothing. It's proof that you don't need to spend money
to have your own corner of the internet. That ties directly into the principle
above: maintaining an online presence should be affordable to everyone.
What you get for free
- ~0.25 vCPU (burstable), 1 GB RAM
- 30 GB disk
- ~1 GB/month outbound network traffic
- US regions only (Oregon, Iowa, South Carolina)
- Exceeding these limits will trigger charges
Setting up your own
- Create a Google Cloud account (a credit card is required, but you won't be charged as long as you stay within the free tier limits)
- Create an e2-micro VM with a minimal Linux image (Debian or Ubuntu)
- Assign a free static external IP address
- Point your domain's DNS to that IP
- Install a lightweight web server and configure HTTPS
- Upload your files — you're live
