Gremio
Play
Summary
Gremio is the elderly, wealthy Paduan suitor who desires the young Bianca, a figure in the tradition of the commedia dell'arte pantaloon. Despite his lavish promises of wealth to Baptista, he is ultimately outbid by Tranio (disguised as Lucentio), and his age and comic self-delusion make him an easy target for the younger characters' scheming.
Notable Quotations
"Youngling, thou canst not love so dear as I." *(2.1)*
