Grumio
Play
Summary
Grumio is Petruchio's personal servant and a witty, quarrelsome clown whose misunderstandings — literal or feigned — provide much of the play's physical and verbal comedy. He accompanies Petruchio to Baptista's house, survives the chaotic wedding journey to Petruchio's country estate, and serves as a sardonic chorus on his master's taming methods.
Notable Quotations
"Knock, I say." / "Knock you here, sir? Why, sir, what am I, sir, that I should knock you here, sir?" *(1.2)*
"Why, she's a devil, a devil, the devil's dam." *(1.2)*
